Title: Family Medicine Resident Physician
Overview: Doug has joined us from Woods Hole, Massachusetts. He went to medical school in Miami, Florida. He has held various leadership roles within the Florida Academy of Family Medicine and the American Academy of Family Physicians, and is in pursuit of his Master in Public Health. Doug enjoys running, hiking, mountain biking, skiing and sea kayaking.
Professional Summary: Family medicine allows me to work as part of a team of providers to transform the patient experience and provide comprehensive, multi-layered care that empowers patients and communities. I pursued a Masters in Public Health to explore cross-disciplinary and population-level health promotion; to learn the strengths and challenges of interventions on school, community and governmental levels; and to develop my understanding of our health care system.
Personal Summary: When I was looking at residency programs, I was looking for an awesome community based program with an emphasis on producing rural providers – but I also wanted a strong inpatient experience where I could get all the procedural training and teaching from specialty providers that I would need. I was hoping for program where I would join a physician group that was dedicated to medicine, but balanced with community engagement, commitment to a whole-person approach, and social responsibility. Kootenai stood out in these regards. Now that I am here, I’ve also learned that it is an excellent place to live – with a community that works hard to engage one another, frequent festivals, awesome availability of outdoor sports, and a truly excited medical community that is dedicated to resident training. It is a truly great place to be a resident.
