Kootenai Clinic Family Medicine Residency participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) for first-year Family Medicine residency positions. Applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS). USMLE or COMLEX Step 1 is required for all students applying to the program.

Eligibility
- No more than one exam failure (USMLE and/or COMLEX)
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (no Visa or EAD’s)
- Fourth year Medical Student or Graduate from LCME or AOA accredited, or State of California approved medical school
- If a graduate, must have graduated on or after July 1, 2020
- If an international graduate, must be ECFMG certified prior to submission of application
- U.S. Family Medicine Clinic experience equivalent to a 4-6 week rotation (no observerships or job shadow experience accepted)
- U.S. Inpatient experience in Family Medicine, Inpatient Pediatrics or Internal Medicine (no observerships or job shadow experience accepted)
General Application Criteria
- Applications accepted only through ERAS
- USMLE/COMLEX Step 1, required for application
- USMLE/COMLEX Step 2, all aspects, must be passed prior to rank deadline with NRMP
- Dean’s Letter (MSPE)
- Two letters of recommendation – at least one from a family medicine physician.
- Documentation of US Family Medicine Clinic experience equivalent to 4-6 week rotation (no observerships or job shadow experience accepted).
- Documentation of US Inpatient experience in Family Medicine, Inpatient Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine (no observerships or job shadow experience accepted)
- Include information in your personal statement about specific reasons for choosing to pursue family medicine.
Additional requirements for International Graduates
- Valid ECFMG and Clinical Skills Assessment Certification
- Be eligible to obtain an Idaho medical license at the start of second year of training
- Documentation of US Family Medicine Clinic experience equivalent to 4-6 week rotation (no observerships or job shadow experience accepted)
- Documentation of US Inpatient experience in Family Medicine, Inpatient Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine (no observerships or job shadow experience accepted)
